Unbelievable! I've had many bangs here and there while skiing (some actually promoting the usage of a helmet) but never to the point where I would have to use crutches. Yes, I actually torn my ACL while playing soccer.
I never thought that one can "self injure" oneself running on a futbal field playing soccer. It happened while I was sprinting at full speed trying to position myself in a good striking position and straightened my leg while standing on it to see where the other striker is... well, at that moment I heard a big pop and went down like a dog that slipped on ice.
For those interested in how the surgery progressed here is the summmary:
Surgery was delayed a few months but on December 7th I had the reconstruction done. The recovery was short and a bit painful... mmm... Vicodin... I spent a few days in bed with the leg elevated, iced and braced.

I could not believe that I lost so much muscle tissue in my thigh. 3 days after the surgery I joined the fun therapy. Three weeks after surgery I was able to walk freely on my leg, with very little limping. There was still pain if I put too much pressure on it and was able to take the brace off.
I will keep updating the thread as the progress goes by so that those who are interested can read up :-)
